The film "LA Confidential" is about three LA detectives who are investigating a late night shooting in their own style.

First the sequence shows a few of the main producers such as Warner Brothers and Regency. the next still is of the first bit of screenplay/recording in the sequence, the first few minutes are in the style of an advertisement for L.A. this hooks the audience into the movie because it tells you the backstory of the film in an entertaining and funny way. It is also the first credits that come on the screen "regency enterprises presents" is overlaid in yellow text.

The next frame is of a LA beach, as the narrator continues to advertise the luxuries of LA, the credits for "Arnon Miclhan/David L Wolper" are shown in the same font as before. This is a strange scene for film noir as you rarely see a beach or the sunshine, it is usually dark and gloomy. but for the first few minutes of the film you are lead to believe LA is a nice place to be.

In the next frame the title of the film is shown in red in the middle of he screen with pictures around it in both black and white and color (showing the time period of the film).

The next shot is again trying to sell LA as a great place with the use of real film of celebrities at the time who lived or worked in LA, this entices the audience more because of the massive fan base of these people. The credits for "james Cromwell" are overlaid.

In the next frame we are shown a party, and the LA luxury theme is finally broken with the narrator saying "but there's trouble in paradise". the screenshot shows one of the main characters of the story line (but not the film) being introduced as 'the bad guy'.

The next two shots are a common feature of the opening of film noir, newspaper clips to tell parts of the story quickly and effectively, usually about the criminal. these are very effective at telling little pieces of story quickly and stick to the noir theme as they are in black and white.

Finally the screen goes black and the producers name is shown in yellow font, the fact that the screen goes black and his name is not overlaid like the others may show his importance in the film. it also marks the end of the opening sequence and the narrator stops talking after this point, it seems like a good way to end the sequence.
